Goodyear Endurance vs Power King Towmax

Tires are an often underappreciated aspect of trailers, since many people tend to focus primarily on what’s actually inside. However, there’s no doubt that investing in high-quality tires can make or break your outdoor experience.

But of course, price can be a glaring issue when choosing tires, and trailer tires are no exception. So, can the budget brand Power Max beat out, or at least go toe to toe with an industry giant like Goodyear?

Let’s find out in this Goodyear Endurance vs Power King Towmax tire comparison.

Differences

Right off the bat, when it comes to trailer tires, Goodyear has got this area down to pat with their Goodyear Endurance line of tires. From travel trailers to 5-wheel campers, the Goodyear Endurance is an industry standard for trailer tires.

However, Power King Tires, more specifically their Power King Towmax STR II, is rising in popularity due to their affordability and reliable performance. As such, it’s only sensible to assess how these tires differ from performance to price.

1. Performance

To have a more comprehensive tire comparison, we took both tires for a spin and tested them out ourselves.

Wet Performance

In regard to wet performance, both tires were excellent when it comes to traction, and considering the heavy loads these tires usually carry, this aspect is a welcome addition.

However, the Endurance is definitely the better tire. Its closely spaced ribs give it all the traction it needs for wet surfaces, as they provide much better contact with the road. In addition, its wet braking distance and handling are both superb as well.

Although the Power King Towmax wasn’t bad per se due to its wide circumferential grooves and optimized tread design, the Goodyear Endurance simply outshines it.

Dry Performance

Similar to wet performance, we have to give this round to Goodyear Endurance once again in a unanimous decision from us and from several Goodyear Endurance reviews.

Goodyear Endurance tire’s symmetric tread design, along with the aforementioned tightly spaced ribs, make these tires feel at home on the highway compared to the Power King Towmax.

Winter Performance

While these tires aren’t winter tires by any means, they’re actually serviceable enough through light snow.

The difference between the two in terms of performance is certainly miles apart. Whether it’s supreme traction or acceleration on snow, the Goodyear Endurance trumps the Power King Towmax STR II in regard to winter performance.

In fact, many Power King Towmax tire reviews agree that the tire’s handling and braking distance can suffer in snow and nice.

2. Durability

One of the more important factors to consider when choosing the perfect trailer tires is undoubtedly durability. Due to the constant heavy loads that these tires carry, having a more durable set of rubbers is undoubtedly worth the investment.

That being said, the Goodyear Endurance is once again the better tire. The twin steel belt and two-ply nylon structure make sure that it mitigates impact-related failures, and Goodyear made sure of this.

Unfortunately, the same could not be said for Power King’s tires, even with a similar tire structure. In fact, there are certain instances where these tires explode out of nowhere due to intense pressure.

Here’s an excerpt from Reddit u/Paris_d when he bought his first set of Goodyear Endurance tires, replacing Trailer King tires, a tire variant from Power King.

Just replaced the tires with Goodyear Endurance. Pretty sure people on this sub are the only ones that understand my excitement!

3. Price

As mentioned above, price can be a glaring issue when choosing trailer tires. As expected, the Power King Towmax is the more affordable tire at $64.61 to $126.96.

Meanwhile, the Goodyear Endurance has a much steeper price tag, costing around $105.48 to $278.99 per tire.

Conclusion

It’s vividly clear in this Goodyear Endurance vs Power King Towmax tire comparison that the former dominates across all boards. However, in terms of wet and dry performance, the difference between the two tires is somewhat negligible.

But do take in mind that regarding durability and snow performance, the Goodyear Endurance is unquestionably far superior. Moreover, you won’t only get the best performance, but you’ll also be safer as well, making the extra cost worth it.
