ICLEI is a global organization that works with local governments to generate political awareness on key themes in the area of sustainability. In its network, ICLEI has, 12 mega-cities, 100 super-cities and urban regions, 450 large cities, and 450 small and medium-sized cities and towns in 84 countries.
Urban Mobility is a key area of focus for ICLEI as urban areas today face chronic demands for faster commutes, safer roads, more space, and cleaner air, and local governments face increasingly difficult decisions about mobility issues and land use policies in their communities. ICLEI addresses transport issues through its transport initiative, EcoMobility.
EcoMobility is travel through integrated, socially inclusive, and environmentally friendly transport options, including and integrating walking, cycling, wheeling, and passenging. Thus, enabling citizens and organizations access to goods, services, and information in a sustainable manner. EcoMobility supports citizens’ quality of life, increases travel choices, and promotes social cohesion.
ICLEI’s EcoMobility initiative is comprised of three major projects:
