ADP 2-10 Session Bonn, Germany 31 August – 4 September 2015

Co-Chairs of the ADP, Ahmed Djoghlaf (Algeria) and Daniel Reifsnyder (US) (l-r)

During session 2-10 of the Ad-Hoc Working Group on the Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP), delegates focused on refining the Geneva Negotiating Text (GNT) to produce clearer understanding and articulation of the elements of a “Paris Package.” Using a tool developed by the Co-Chairs, Parties streamlined and consolidated (a) provisions appropriate for inclusion in an agreement and (b) provisions appropriate for inclusion in a decision. The tool also addressed provisions whose placement required further clarity among the Parties in relation to the draft agreement or draft decision.

International transport emissions featured during the discussions with delegates calling for more ambitious emissions reductions and greater accountability within the aviation and maritime sectors. Furthermore, the session also highlighted how collaborative actions and initiatives by non-state actors in the transport sector will be important for making progress on pre-2020 ambition. Finally, technology assistance for sustainable transport can be particularly useful for enhancing the mitigation potential of developing countries.
