Transport NDC´s and Transport Action in the Islamic Development Bank´s region

The Partnership on Sustainable, Low Carbon Transport (SLoCaT) and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) are organizing an event, “Transport NDC´s and Transport Action in the Islamic Development Bank´s region” on December 8, 2018 during COP24 at the Pavilion of the Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs).

The event aims to highlight the developing countries which set direct targets to reduce transport emissions in NDCs (e.g. Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire) and their contribution of transport measures in 1.5DS-compatible NDCs (e.g. the Gambia, Morocco). It will also highlight contribution of low carbon transport to sustainable development and describe potential of policy targets and measures to raise ambition on transport in NDCs. Results of joint IsDB/SLoCaT cooperation, including reference to recently completed report “Low-carbon Transport for Development”, will also be highlighted.

Intended Outcomes

  • Leveraging existing ambition though (esp. developing country) role models to demonstrate potential for developing low-carbon transport strategies among regional peers and to increase “South-North” cooperation to increase transport ambition in forthcoming NDC revisions and policy targets/measures;
  • Emphasizing TCC-GSR as tool for region, country, city policymakers to raise ambition and support implementation of NDCs, coordinating low carbon transport policies and measures across stakeholder groups.
