South Korea’s largest island and popular tourist destination Jeju aims to eliminate carbon emissions until 2030. Jeju has a population of around 500,000 people and a total land size of 1,800 sqkm. This Decarbonization Champion aims to have 100% renewable energy by 2030.
The island is a test-bed for smart energy grid and renewable energy in Korea.
In the transport sector, the island expects to replace all cars with electric cars. Electric buses were introduced and charging stations for rent-able electric cars are installed.
